Security agencies in Ondo State have launched a coordinated bush combing operation across identified black spots in the Akure North Local Government Area, intercepting two suspected kidnappers in the process.
The joint operation, carried out on Monday, involved personnel from the Amotekun Corps, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigerian Army.
It was gathered that the team navigated dense forests on foot and with motorcycles and vehicles, covering areas from the back of HOB Estate through Ilado, Ilu Abo and Ala Dada zones.
During the several hour exercise, operatives dismantled and set ablaze suspected hideouts used by kidnappers and other criminal elements before intercepting two suspects.
The Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, described the operation as part of a sustained joint task force strategy aimed at flushing out criminals from the state’s forested areas.
Adeleye said Amotekun operatives, leveraging their local knowledge, guided other security agencies to known black spots, leading to the successful dislodgement of suspected miscreants.
He added that the operation involved a trek of about four to five hours through thick forest terrain, underscoring the commitment of the security agencies to restoring safety in the area.
“This is a deliberate and continuous operation. The message is clear, there is no safe haven for criminals in Ondo State. We will continue to comb all identified black spots until criminal activities are completely eradicated,” he said.
Adeleye, however, declined to disclose the specific locations of the black spots, citing security reasons.
A local farmer, Rotimi Adeyanju, commended the Ondo State Government under Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the improvement in security, saying residents could now visit their farms without fear.
