The Delta State Police Command has rescued a 27-year-old woman abducted along the Ibusa/Ogwashi-Ukwu forest corridor, while also apprehending a suspected armed robber in a separate incident.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, made this known in a statement issued in Warri on Monday.
He said the victim, whose name was withheld, is an indigene of Ibusa in Oshimili North Local Government Area.
According to him, intelligence reports revealed that the woman was kidnapped and kept at an uncompleted building near the Obosi River along the Ibusa/Ogwashi-Ukwu Road on March 12, 2026.
Edafe stated that upon receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, ordered the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad to secure the victim’s release and track down the suspects.
He explained that the squad, led by its commander, carried out an operation on March 19, 2026, at about 3 p.m., during which they advanced on the kidnappers’ hideout.
“On sighting the operatives, the hoodlums opened fire, but the police overpowered them, forcing the suspects to flee and abandon the victim,” the statement noted.
The victim was later evacuated to a general hospital for medical care, while security operatives have intensified efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects.
In a related development, the command confirmed the arrest of a suspected armed robber following a distress alert received by officers at the Owa-Oyibu Division on March 18, 2026.
According to Edafe, at about 7:45 a.m., the suspect, identified as Sunday Blessing, in company with two others now at large, allegedly dispossessed a Point-of-Sale operator of N600,000 at gunpoint along Diffrey Road near Ebu Owa Market.
He added that police operatives swiftly responded to the scene, leading to the arrest of the suspect, while his accomplices escaped.
A locally made Beretta pistol was recovered from him, and he remains in custody as investigations are ongoing.
