Ondo Police nab 42-year-old man, recover illegal gun in Akure

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 42-year-old man and recovered a locally made firearm during a targeted operation in Akure.

The suspect, Ayodeji Patrick ‘M’, was apprehended on March 24, 2026, along Oda Road after intelligence-led investigations pointed to his involvement in illegal arms possession.

Police operatives subsequently searched his residence and seized a single-barrel gun, a development described as a major step in the state’s fight against illegal weapons.

Patrick is now in police custody, and investigators said he has provided useful statements. Authorities are working to trace the origin of the firearm, determine if the suspect has links to criminal networks, and identify any accomplices.

CP Adebowale Lawal, Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, commended the operatives for their professionalism and acknowledged the support of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in enhancing the command’s operational efficiency.

The police have warned residents against illegal possession of firearms or engagement in criminal activities, stressing that offenders will be prosecuted.

The public has also been urged to report suspicious activities, with assurances that all information will be handled confidentially.

The Ondo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, promising continued operations to curb crime and maintain public safety across the state.
