The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against robbery, with the arrest of three suspects and recovery of a vehicle stolen during an attack on a hotel in Atan Ota.
The command said the success came after weeks of intelligence-driven investigation by operatives of its anti-robbery unit, who tracked the stolen Toyota Matrix to Lagos.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the incident occurred in the early hours of February 18, 2026, when suspected robbers invaded De-Ultimate Hotel situated along Sokoto/Badagry Road.
He explained that the assailants dispossessed a guest, Joseph Bankole, and hotel workers of valuables, including the vehicle, phones and other items.
Babaseyi noted that detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, under the leadership of SP Gbenga Ayodele, launched a detailed probe which eventually led to the recovery of the car on April 15 in Lagos.
According to him, two suspected car dealers were arrested in connection with the recovered vehicle, while ongoing efforts are focused on apprehending other members of the gang.
The police spokesperson added that the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, assuring that all those linked to the crime would be tracked and prosecuted.
He reaffirmed the command’s resolve to sustain pressure on criminal elements and enhance security across the state.
