Troops arrest three suspected terrorist couriers in Kogi

Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have apprehended three suspected terrorist logistics couriers in Kogi State in separate operations.

The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lt. Hassan Abdulahi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

He said the first suspect was arrested while riding a motorcycle along the Lokoja end of the Lokoja–Abuja Expressway by troops deployed on the Jamata–Owara axis in Lokoja Local Government Area.

The suspect, identified as Mathew Elisha, also known as Nasara, was said to have been on the security watchlist prior to his arrest.

Abdulahi explained that a search conducted on the motorcycle revealed it had been modified with a hidden compartment allegedly used for transporting ammunition and other items.

Preliminary investigations, he added, linked the suspect to known terrorist elements, prompting further operations by the troops.

He noted that acting on credible intelligence, troops later intercepted two additional suspects during a follow-up operation on April 20, 2026.

According to him, soldiers mounted a snap checkpoint at Response Area Oshokoshoko along the Obajana–Kabba Road, where a Toyota bus conveying the suspects from Makurdi to Obajana was stopped.

The suspects were identified as Mallam Zubairu Abubakar and Adamu Abubakar Abdullahi.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 314 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and three AK-47 rifle magazines concealed behind the driver’s seat.

Other items recovered include mobile phones, a driver’s licence, a National Identification Number slip and an identity card.

The Army spokesman said the suspects and recovered exhibits had been handed over to the 12 Military Intelligence Regiment for further investigation.

He added that the operation demonstrated the troops’ commitment to disrupting the movement and logistics network of terrorist groups within the area.
