A 20-year-old student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, identified as Audi Emmanuel, has been found dead in his residence under circumstances that have sparked controversy among students.
The deceased, a Computer Engineering student, was reportedly discovered in his room along Awolowo Road in Emure-Ile, Owo Local Government Area.
While initial reports suggested that the student died by suicide, some of his colleagues have raised concerns, alleging foul play. A video circulating on social media has further fuelled speculation over the circumstances surrounding his death.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Command said it was investigating a suspected suicide case.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abayomi Jimoh, said officers were deployed to the scene following the report.
He said the body was recovered and deposited at a morgue for preservation and autopsy.
According to him, preliminary findings point to suicide, but a comprehensive investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of death.
The police also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged members of the public to seek help during periods of emotional distress.
The command advised residents to speak up and access available support systems when faced with mental health challenges.
