Troops of the Quick Reaction Force attached to the 17 Briade have recovered an abandoned vehicle following an alleged ambush by suspected terrorists along the Karaduwa–Matazu road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Security sources disclosed that the troops were mobilised after receiving a distress call over the attack on commuters travelling along the route.
According to a security update shared by security analyst Bakatsine on X, the incident occurred on May 4, 2026, when suspected terrorists reportedly intercepted travellers on the road.
The troops, stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Matazu, were said to have swiftly responded to the distress call.
However, the attackers reportedly fled the scene upon sighting the advancing security personnel.
The report added that the troops launched a pursuit operation along the escape route of the suspected terrorists, although no direct contact was established during the chase.
During a search of the area, security operatives recovered an ash-coloured Volkswagen Golf with registration number KJA 743 FP.
The vehicle was reportedly travelling from Kafin Soli to Matazu before it was abandoned.
Authorities said the recovered vehicle had since been handed over to the Divisional Police Officer in Matazu, SP Ahmed Hamisu, for further investigation and necessary action.
Security agencies also assured residents that normalcy had returned to the area, adding that surveillance and monitoring operations were ongoing to prevent further attacks.
