Oyo APC Primary: Adelabu takes early lead as ward results emerge

Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has taken an early lead in the ongoing governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, as collation of results commenced across the state on Thursday.

Early figures from several of the state’s 351 wards indicated strong performances by Adelabu in a number of local government areas.

A total of 11 aspirants were screened for the APC governorship primary ahead of the 2027 election, with eight contenders from Ibadan and three others vying to secure the party’s ticket to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde.

Reports from different voting centres suggested that Adelabu enjoyed significant backing from party leaders and grassroots members during the exercise.

Supporters of the former minister were also seen celebrating in some wards as preliminary results filtered in from local collation centres.

Despite the emerging results, tension remained high in parts of the state as supporters of various aspirants awaited the official declaration of ward-by-ward outcomes.

The APC primary is expected to shape the party’s strategy ahead of the 2027 governorship election as it seeks to regain control of Oyo State from the opposition.
