The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress will struggle to secure up to 10 per cent of votes in Rivers State during the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the assertion on Saturday while addressing a luncheon organised in honour of candidates of the Rainbow Coalition in Port Harcourt.
The former Rivers State governor also expressed confidence that no political party outside the coalition would win the governorship election in the state, insisting that only a candidate endorsed by the alliance would emerge victorious.
According to him, newer political platforms such as the ADC and the National Democratic Congress lack practical electoral experience and would face a major test when the 2027 elections commence.
He argued that political success requires strong grassroots mobilisation and electoral structures rather than public declarations of support or high-profile visits.
Wike further referenced the 2023 presidential election, claiming that Atiku failed to secure up to 10 per cent of the votes cast in Rivers State and maintained that the opposition figure would fare no better in the next electoral cycle.
He said the Rainbow Coalition would work to ensure that the ADC remained politically insignificant in the state, adding that electoral victories are achieved through organisation, hard work and sustained engagement with the electorate.
The minister also boasted of his political camp’s track record in winning elections despite difficult circumstances, expressing confidence that the coalition would remain dominant in Rivers politics ahead of the 2027 polls.
Wike’s remarks come amid growing political realignments and intensified campaigns by various parties seeking to strengthen their positions ahead of the next general election.
