Ambassador Blessing Fubara, younger brother of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in the state on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
Blessing Fubara made the declaration in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, where he pledged to restore economic growth and political stability in Rivers State if elected governor.
The governorship aspirant said his decision to join the race was driven by the need to revive what he described as the declining fortunes of the state and address growing hardship among residents.
According to him, Rivers State had suffered economic setbacks, loss of investments and declining opportunities, adding that urgent steps were needed to reposition the state.
“Today, we see a Rivers that is distressed, shortchanged and almost seeming like a conquered state, but we are not a conquered people,” he stated.
Fubara described himself as a capable and energetic candidate prepared to “restore the soul of Rivers” through inclusive governance and people-oriented policies.
He also appealed to supporters across the 23 local government areas of the state to mobilise and participate actively in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 polls.
The aspirant further pledged to serve only one four-year term if elected, saying the decision was in line with the state’s existing political power rotation arrangement.
According to him, the Rivers South-East Senatorial District should be allowed to complete its eight-year tenure in office, warning that any attempt to alter the arrangement could create political instability and set a dangerous precedent in the state.
Fubara stressed that preserving the zoning structure remained important for fairness, equity and peaceful political coexistence in Rivers State.
