A high-powered presidential delegation led by Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, and Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, on Sunday visited Ogbomoso, Oyo State, following the abduction of pupils, students, and teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area.
The delegation’s visit comes more than two weeks after gunmen attacked three schools in the area, abducting dozens of pupils and teachers. The affected schools include Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and LA Primary School.
Also part of the delegation were the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa. The officials met with community leaders and families of the abducted victims, assuring them of the Federal Government’s commitment to securing the safe release of those still in captivity.
According to presidential officials, the visit followed President Tinubu’s directive for intensified rescue operations by security agencies after the abduction.
The development comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in Oyo State. Teachers, civil society groups, and residents recently staged protests in Ibadan, demanding urgent government action to rescue the abducted pupils and teachers.
The protesters stressed that the safety of schoolchildren and educators must remain a priority, urging authorities to strengthen security around schools and ensure the victims are rescued without delay.
Rescue efforts by security agencies are ongoing, while families of the abducted victims continue to hope for their safe return.
