Suspected terrorists have attacked Ayegunle Bunu community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, killing one resident and abducting more than 30 people, including passengers travelling in a commercial bus.
The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday when heavily armed gunmen stormed the community and operated for several minutes without resistance. During the invasion, one resident was killed while another sustained injuries.
Sources said the attackers kidnapped two residents of the community—a man and a woman—before intercepting a commercial bus passing through the area. The gunmen subsequently forced the passengers out of the vehicle and whisked them away to an unknown destination.
The incident has heightened fears among residents and travellers along routes linking communities near the Kogi-Kwara border, an area that has witnessed repeated cases of kidnappings and violent attacks in recent months.
Residents have called on security agencies and the government to strengthen security presence in the area to prevent further attacks and ensure the safe return of the victims.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident or provide details of ongoing rescue operations.
The latest attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Kogi State, where communities continue to face threats from armed criminal groups.
