Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is facing sharp criticism after a video went viral showing him pledging to secure victory for the All Progressives Congress in the upcoming council elections in the Federal Capital Territory, even as parts of his state continue to experience escalating insecurity.
In the clip, recorded during a political gathering, the governor assured party leaders that he would work with local influencers and stakeholders to deliver the FCT for the ruling party.
AbdulRazaq told supporters that voters across the six council areas of the FCT would back the APC, describing the party as a reliable instrument for Nigeria’s progress and sustainable future.
The statement, however, sparked outrage online, with many questioning why the governor would focus on elections in Abuja while communities in Kwara are still grappling with attacks and kidnappings.
The backlash intensified following the circulation of a video allegedly released by suspected terrorists showing victims from the February 3 attack on Woro in Kaiama Local Government Area.
In response, the state government, through the Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, said security agencies are reviewing the video to identify those affected, while working with local stakeholders to verify details.
Officials also noted that conflicting reports on the number of abducted persons have made it difficult to release an official figure, emphasizing that rescuing all victims and bringing the culprits to justice remains the top priority.
Despite the government’s clarification, social media users continue to criticise the governor’s remarks, arguing that focusing on delivering votes outside Kwara reflects a disregard for urgent security challenges in his state.
