Troops of Sector 6 of Operation OPEP have neutralised six suspected kidnappers and rescued a woman abducted in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The raid took place at Angwan Boka in Sopp District, the military action following intelligence obtained from two suspects arrested the previous day. The two had been linked to a kidnapping syndicate and provided details of their accomplices’ hideout.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, the operation was launched around 6:20 pm on February 17.
The abducted woman had reportedly been taken at about 6:00 am the same day.
“Troops immediately moved to the location with the two arrested suspects in custody,” Makama said on X.
He added that upon reaching the hideout, soldiers engaged the kidnappers in a firefight, killing three of them on the spot.
Additional suspects were also neutralised, bringing the total to six.
The woman was rescued unharmed and returned safely to her family, according to the report.
The operation highlights ongoing efforts by Nigerian security forces to dismantle kidnapping networks and restore safety in the Plateau region.
