The Oyo State Police Command has appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the corpse of an unknown woman found in the Egbeda Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, made this known in a statement issued on Monday in Ibadan.
He disclosed that the discovery was reported on Saturday by a passerby who alerted the Egbeda Divisional Police Headquarters after sighting the body.
According to Ayanlade, the individual had visited a car wash facility located around Ile Marun, Iwo Road, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where he observed the woman’s lifeless body inside a drainage.
He added that police operatives, led by the Divisional Crime Officer, promptly responded and proceeded to the scene.
“On arrival, officers found the corpse of an unidentified woman in the drainage. Preliminary findings indicated injuries around the head, pointing to suspected foul play.
“The area was documented, and the remains were evacuated to the Adeoyo State Hospital Mortuary, Ring Road, Ibadan, for preservation and autopsy,” the statement read.
Ayanlade noted that an investigation had commenced to ascertain the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding her death.
He urged residents, particularly those with missing female relatives, to report to the Egbeda Divisional Police Headquarters or the nearest police station to assist with identification.
The police spokesman emphasised that public cooperation would aid efforts to unravel the case.
He further assured that the command would thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The command also encouraged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible information to security agencies to enhance safety across the state.
