The Ondo State Police Command has rescued five passengers abducted by suspected armed robbers along the Ondo-Akure highway.
The development was made known by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, in a statement released on Thursday.
He explained that the incident occurred in the early hours of the day at about 5:20 a.m. between Ita-Oba and Oboto axis of the road.
According to him, the victims were travelling from Ondo to Akure when their vehicle was ambushed by gunmen who took them into a nearby forest.
The assailants were said to have robbed the passengers of their valuables before leaving them in the bush.
Jimoh stated that security operatives, working with personnel of the Amotekun Corps, swiftly mobilised to the area following a distress alert.
He noted that the joint operation led to the safe recovery of all the victims without any injuries.
The police spokesman added that three suspects, identified as Akinyemi Olamilekan, Mutaka Ali and Atiku Abubakar, had been arrested and would be prosecuted after investigations are concluded.
