Security operatives have successfully repelled an attempted attack by suspected bandits on Tsauri community in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, recovering more than 500 cattle and killing two of the assailants.
The Chairman of the Faruruwa Community Security Committee, Alhaji Yahya Bagobiri, praised the prompt action of security agencies, especially the police, for preventing the situation from degenerating into a full-blown crisis.
Bagobiri said the attackers, who were said to be in their hundreds and riding about 150 motorcycles, invaded the community in broad daylight.
He explained that the bandits targeted a Fulani herder with over 2,000 cattle, attempting to make away with a large number of the animals.
According to him, the community quickly mobilised and alerted security operatives, as well as nearby communities such as Goron Dutse, Shanono, and Tsanyawa.
He added that he personally reached out to the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, to seek urgent intervention.
Following the distress call, the police commissioner reportedly ordered an immediate response, leading to the deployment of a joint security team, including personnel of the Civilian Joint Task Force.
Bagobiri stated that the fleeing bandits were intercepted during the operation, with some heading towards Katsina State while others remained within Kano territory.
He noted that security forces engaged the attackers, resulting in the killing of two suspects and the recovery of over 500 rustled cattle.
He added that the swift intervention by security agencies helped to prevent a major security breakdown in the community.
