Police repel Katsina bandit attack, arrest suspect, rescue injured victims

The Katsina State Police Command has foiled a bandit attack on communities in Dandume Local Government Area, arresting one suspect and rescuing two injured residents during the operation.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night at about 10pm when suspected armed bandits invaded Unguwar Bido and Unguwar Kanawa villages.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq.

According to the statement, a distress call alerted security operatives to the attack, prompting an immediate response by police teams.

The Divisional Police Officer in Dandume was said to have swiftly mobilised officers to the affected communities, where they engaged the attackers in a gun duel.

“The Katsina State Police Command has successfully repelled a bandits’ attack on Unguwar Bido and Unguwar Kanawa villages, Dandume LGA, and arrested one suspected bandit,” the statement read.

It added that upon arrival at the scene, police operatives engaged the hoodlums, forcing them to retreat in disarray, with suspected casualties recorded on the attackers’ side.

During the exchange of fire, two residents sustained gunshot injuries. They were immediately evacuated to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment and responding positively.

The Command said one of the fleeing suspects was apprehended during the operation.

Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Aliyu Umar Fage, commended the swift response and professionalism of the operatives involved in repelling the attack.

He also directed a thorough investigation into the incident and ordered a manhunt for other fleeing members of the gang.

The police urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible information to security agencies.

They advised the public to report suspicious movements to the nearest police station or contact the command’s emergency lines.
