Troops of Sector 2 under the Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA have killed three suspected terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a fighting patrol in Zamfara State.
The operation was carried out on May 7 in parts of Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji Local Government Areas of the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.
According to the statement, the troops encountered armed terrorists at Doumbourum Village during the patrol, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
The military said the troops subdued the attackers with superior firepower, forcing the fleeing terrorists to abandon weapons and other items after suffering casualties.
“The troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight and successfully neutralised three of them during the operation,” the statement added.
Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle, one machine gun, one locally fabricated pistol, seven rifle magazines and 571 rounds of ammunition.
The task force noted that no casualty was recorded among the troops involved in the operation.
It described the latest success as part of ongoing military offensives aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and curbing criminal activities across the North-West region.
The statement added that the operation reflected the troops’ “commitment, resilience and professionalism” in the fight against insecurity.
The military also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely intelligence to aid ongoing operations in the region.
