The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Abdullahi Gambo, for allegedly attacking and robbing a commercial motorcyclist in Ningi Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, said to be from Kanaka Village in Ganjuwa Local Government Area, was accused of assaulting the rider and stealing his motorcycle during the incident.
According to the police, the attack occurred around 2pm on May 11 along the Gada Maiwa–Zakara Road.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the command, CSP Nafiu Habib, said the suspect allegedly struck the victim on the head with a stick, leaving him with serious injuries.
The victim was reportedly rushed to a medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Habib disclosed that the suspect fled the scene with the stolen motorcycle after the attack.
He, however, said operatives attached to the Ningi Police Division, working alongside local residents, tracked down and arrested the suspect shortly after the incident.
The police also recovered the stolen motorcycle during the operation.
According to the command, the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation and is presently in custody assisting investigators.
The case, the police said, would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the incident and reiterated the command’s resolve to combat criminal activities across the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.
