The Oyo State Police Command says it has commenced investigation into a viral video showing abducted school workers appealing for help following their reported kidnap in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this on Sunday while reacting to enquiries over the footage circulating on social media.
In the video, a woman identified as Mrs Alamu, who claimed to be the principal of Community High School, Esinele, alleged that she, alongside other staff members and students, was abducted by armed men.
Confirming that the police were aware of the development, Olayinka said efforts were ongoing to verify the video and address the situation.
“I have seen the video, and we are working on it,” he said.
When asked whether the video had been authenticated, the police spokesman stated that investigations were still underway.
“I cannot confirm that at the moment. The same way members of the public are seeing it is how we have also seen it. We are already working on it,” he added.
The incident comes amid reports that gunmen recently attacked a secondary school in the Ahoro-Esinele community of Oriire LGA, abducting the principal and several students.
In the viral clip, Mrs Alamu said the attack occurred around 9:30am on Friday when armed men stormed the school premises and whisked away teachers and students.
“On Friday around 9:30am, we were attacked by armed men. Many of us, including staff and students, were abducted,” she said.
The principal appealed to the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, the Christian Association of Nigeria and other Nigerians to intervene and secure their release.
“We have been here since Friday. I am begging everyone to come to our aid and ensure this matter is resolved peacefully so that no life will be lost,” she pleaded.
Another victim, identified as Temitope, who appeared in the video carrying a baby, also appealed for urgent intervention.

She said the abducted children were in distress and urged authorities, religious bodies and community leaders to intensify efforts towards their rescue.
The development has continued to generate reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over rising insecurity and calling for swift action to secure the victims’ freedom.
