In a recent revelation, Nigerian singer D’banj disclosed that the dissolution of the iconic Mo’Hits Records was initiated by his longtime collaborator and producer, Don Jazzy. The split, which officially took place in 2012, was reportedly due to irreconcilable internal disagreements between the duo.
Speaking on the Mic On podcast with Seun Okinbaloye, D’banj emphasized that he had no part in the decision, stating, “If I could go back in time, I wouldn’t change anything about my relationship with Don Jazzy — especially because the decision to separate wasn’t mine. It was completely his. That’s why there’s no bad blood.”
D’banj revealed that as part of the separation, Don Jazzy transferred full ownership of his music catalogue and several unreleased tracks to him, underscoring the professional and amicable nature of the split.
The singer noted that while differences of opinion existed at the time, the duo had been on the brink of a global breakthrough, a milestone partially realized with their final collaborative release, Oliver Twist. Despite the amicable closure, D’banj admitted he still misses the creative synergy he shared with Don Jazzy.
