The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a security guard for the abduction and defilement of a 14-year-old girl.
The suspect, identified as Godday, worked at a building previously used by a commercial bank near Mothercat Junction, TransAmadi, Port Harcourt. He was apprehended on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
The victim’s mother reported that she had sent her daughter to withdraw money from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) at Mothercat on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
The girl withdrew money from one bank and proceeded to another to withdraw more cash.
It was at this second bank that the suspect allegedly abducted her.
The suspect, who had been standing behind the girl at the bank, dragged her to his security post, where he locked the gate and sexually assaulted her.
Upon her return, the mother noticed that the girl’s clothes were soaked with water and blood, and she had bruises on her face, neck, and leg.
The victim’s mother recounted the harrowing experience, detailing the physical injuries her daughter sustained during the assault.
She emphasised the need for justice, acknowledging that no amount of money can restore her daughter’s innocence.
After the incident was reported to the police, the suspect was arrested with the help of security personnel from the bank and Amadi police station.
He has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt for further investigation.
The Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident and assured that the suspect is undergoing thorough investigation at SCIID Port Harcourt.
Meanwhile, Dennis Otobo, a member of the Association Against Child Sexual Abuse and Gender-Based Violence in Rivers State, has urged the police to expedite the investigation and bring the suspect to court without delay.
