The Federal High Court in Abuja has once again refused to grant bail to Tukur Mamu, accused of negotiating with Boko Haram terrorists and financing terrorism, in a ruling delivered by Justice Mohammed Umar on October 21st, 2025. Mamu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his arrest in September 2022, is facing a 10-count charge related to terrorism financing and related offenses.
The court rejected his fresh bail application, affirming the prosecution’s diligence in handling the case and finding no ground to grant bail.Justice Umar emphasized the need for judicious exercise of bail discretion, considering the nature of the charges, strength of evidence, and risk of interference with trial or absconding. While denying bail, the court ordered that Mamu receive adequate medical treatment at a hospital of his choice, under DSS supervision.
His lawyers were instructed to select an appropriate medical facility for his care.Mamu, a Kaduna-based publisher and aide to Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, was arrested following allegations of aiding Boko Haram terrorism financing and negotiating ransom payments directly with terrorists after the Abuja-Kaduna train attack in March 2022.
He reportedly acted without government authorization, negotiating ransoms for personal financial gain, as nominated by the terrorist group themselves.This marks the third time since his arraignment in March 2023 that the court has denied bail to Mamu. The trial continues at the Federal High Court in Abuja, while the court ensures his health needs are met during detention.
This strong judicial stance reflects ongoing concerns about terrorism-related offenses and the integrity of prosecution efforts in Nigeria’s security landscape.
