President Bola Tinubu has approved a major shake-up in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, announcing new appointments across key military positions.
According to a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the changes are part of the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
The statement, titled “Tinubu Changes Service Chiefs,” revealed that General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.
Other new appointees include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.
President Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” while urging the new military heads to justify the confidence reposed in them.
He charged them to enhance professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the Armed Forces as they work to safeguard the nation.
All appointments take immediate effect.
