The Bauchi State House of Assembly has passed a law to create 29 new Local Government Areas (LGAs) across the state in 2025. The bill was passed on Tuesday, October 27th, 2025, during a session presided over by the Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman. Governor Bala Mohammed has signed the bill into law, marking a significant administrative expansion for Bauchi.
The new LGAs include Balma, Bauchi East, Bauchi West, Beshongo, Bula, Burra, Chinade, Dagauda/Jalam, Disina, among others, totaling 29 in number. However, these new LGAs are not yet fully operational; they require approval and consequential provisions by the National Assembly to become officially recognized under the Nigerian 1999 Constitution.
The Acting Deputy Clerk of the House, Musa Yerima, has forwarded the law to Senator Barau Jibrin, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Constitutional Review, for further necessary actions by the National Assembly. If approved, this addition will increase Nigeria’s total number of LGAs from 774 to 793.
This move aims at improving local governance and administrative convenience, bringing government closer to the people for better service delivery and development.
