A disturbing breach of public safety occurred in Akure, Ondo State, where a police officer on lawful duty was fatally attacked during an altercation with individuals in the Arakale district. The incident, confirmed by the Ondo State Police Command, has raised renewed concerns about the vulnerability of frontline officers and the rising frequency of violent confrontations across the country.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, Mr. Olayinka Ayanlade, the officer—whose name had not been released at the time of the report—became engaged in a dispute with a group described as “recalcitrant individuals.” The confrontation escalated, resulting in the officer being stabbed. He later passed away at the hospital despite emergency efforts to save his life.
The police have arrested two suspects—Shina Jacob (25) and Felix Olalekan (32)—who are believed to be directly linked to the attack. Ayanlade emphasized that swift tactical deployment by the Commissioner of Police enabled the rapid apprehension of the suspects.
“The command will not tolerate any assault on officers lawfully performing their duties, just as it continues to uphold strict standards against abuses by law enforcement personnel,” Ayanlade said.
