Public affairs analyst Mahdi Shehu has strongly criticised the Federal Government after the name of the late Senator Adamu Talba—who died in July 2025—was included in President Bola Tinubu’s latest list of ambassadorial nominees.
In a post on X, Shehu described the inclusion as an embarrassing and completely avoidable mistake. He questioned how agencies responsible for verifying and screening nominees failed to notice that one of the names belonged to a deceased person.
According to Shehu, the error suggests the entire nomination process was rushed and poorly managed. He said the situation reflects a “panicky, disorganized and fire-brigade approach” carried out to satisfy both local and foreign interests.
He added that listing someone who is no longer alive exposes deeper institutional weaknesses and a lack of even basic background checks by relevant agencies.
Shehu argued that governments that operate without clear plans, fairness, or proper procedures are bound to fail. He described the nomination blunder as so extraordinary that “the Guinness Book of Records should register it as a unique incident.”
