Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has criticised the composition and direction of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying it falls short of expectations for national unity and competence.
Speaking at a media briefing in Ibadan on Tuesday, Makinde said he had hoped the Tinubu government would prioritise merit and development over political considerations. “Is it a government of national competence and unity? The answer is no,” he stated.
Makinde recounted a previous interaction with President Tinubu regarding the ministerial nomination process. He had recommended a qualified Oyo State indigene for the position of Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, but the nominee was not selected. Instead, Bayo Adelabu was appointed Minister of Power.
“If the appointment was intended to strengthen the APC in Oyo State, then it was misplaced. Adelabu lacks the capacity to organise the party here,” Makinde said.
The governor also revealed that Tinubu had requested his personal involvement in organising the APC in Oyo State—a request Makinde declined, citing his allegiance to the PDP.
