The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed the revocation of 1,095 landed properties in Abuja owned by prominent individuals, government institutions, and private organisations for failing to pay ground rent and land use conversion fees.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) issued a public notice, shared by Wike’s Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, outlining the enforcement action. Of the affected properties, 835 defaulted on ground rent, while 260 defaulted on land use conversion and violation fees, violating the Land Use Act and terms of their Rights of Occupancy.
Notable individuals on the list include former First Lady Patience Jonathan, former Defence Minister Theophilus Danjuma, Iyabo Obasanjo, Emir of Ilorin Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, former governors like Ayo Fayose (Ekiti), Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano), and Sule Lamido (Jigawa), as well as former ministers, lawmakers, and private institutions.
Federal government agencies such as the Office of the National Security Adviser, NNPC, CBN, and NTA, as well as state government properties and several banks, are also affected.
The FCTA warned that enforcement actions will commence immediately following the expiration of a 14-day grace period, emphasizing that no further extensions will be granted. Defaulters risk losing their properties if payments are not made promptly.
The ministry stressed that previous notices had been issued across media platforms, urging compliance, and that this final enforcement aims to ensure adherence to land use regulations in the FCT.
