On December 29, 2025, a formal petition was submitted to His Excellency, Governor Lucky Orimisan, regarding the controversial appointment of Barrister Akintoye Felix Adeoye as the Olu-Oke of Oke-Igbo Kingdom. The petition, filed by Tope Temokun Chambers on behalf of the Kuole-Oloje Ruling House and Prince (Dr.) Adewole Akinpelu Abegunde, claims that the appointment violated existing chieftaincy declarations and disrespected a pending court case.
In the petition, the lawyers argue that the appointment contradicts the chieftaincy declaration, which mandates that the throne of Oke-Igbo rotates among five ruling houses: Odo-Eleyewo, Are Kugbaigbe, Kuole-Oloje, Aderin Ologbenla, and Ajibike Adedimeji. They emphasize that at the time of Adeoye’s appointment, an appeal regarding the previous Olu-Oke’s validity was still under consideration in court.
The document states: “At the time of the presentation of the staff of the office to Barrister Akintoye Felix Adeoye, there exists a Chieftaincy Declaration in respect of the Olu-Oke stool of Oke-Igbo Kingdom which provides that ascendancy to the throne… shall rotate among the 5 ruling houses.” The petitioners assert that this disregard for the established rotation further undermines the integrity of the succession process.
The Kuole-Oloje Ruling House contends that it is their turn to present a candidate, as the Are Kugbaigbe Ruling House has already had a candidate assume the Olu-Oke position. They have proposed Prince (Dr.) Adewole Akinpelu Abegunde as their rightful candidate.
Expressing concerns over potential unrest in the community, the petition warns that the actions of the state government may have been influenced by misinformation. The petition concludes with demands for the appointment to be rescinded and for adherence to the chieftaincy rotation system, stating: “We trust you to use your good office… to calm the agitations of the community thrown into unrest by this unfortunate disentitlement.”
The petition also serves as a pre-action notice, indicating that legal proceedings may be pursued if a favorable response is not received within one month.
