United States President Donald Trump has revealed that Greenland could be the next territory under consideration for US control, following the arrest of Venezuela’s President, Nicolás Maduro.
Trump made the remark in an interview with The Atlantic, where he said the United States “absolutely” needs Greenland, citing what he described as growing Russian and Chinese presence around the Arctic island.
“We do need Greenland, absolutely,” Trump said, claiming the Danish-controlled territory is surrounded by Russian and Chinese vessels.
His comments came shortly after Katie Miller, wife of Trump’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Stephen Miller, shared a controversial social media post that appeared to advocate US takeover of Greenland.
The renewed interest in Greenland follows recent dramatic developments in Venezuela. Days earlier, Trump reportedly ordered the capture of President Maduro. Maduro and his wife were arrested in Caracas and flown to New York, where they are expected to face criminal charges alongside their son.
The arrest has sparked international backlash, with reports indicating that the death toll from the US-led invasion of Venezuela has risen to at least 80.
Trump’s latest statements have intensified global concerns over his administration’s aggressive foreign policy approach, particularly regarding sovereignty, international law, and the use of military force beyond US borders.
