The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the death of Afrofuji musician Afeez Adeshina, popularly known as Destiny Boy.
The arrest was announced on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, who disclosed that the suspect is currently in police custody while investigations continue.
According to the police, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the 22-year-old singer’s death.
“The Ogun State Police Command has commenced investigations into the death of Adeshina Afeez, popularly known as Destiny Boy. One suspect is presently in custody, and the case has been transferred to the SCID Homicide Section,” the police spokesperson said.
Destiny Boy was reported to have died under unclear circumstances, prompting widespread reactions from fans and the music community. Following the announcement of his death, a previous social media post by the singer resurfaced and went viral. In the post, he reflected on ambition and mortality, writing: “Either I make this money, or I die young. Money must be made.”
A video circulating on social media showed the late musician being transported in a bus, with claims that he had vomited an unknown substance. However, authorities have not provided any official explanation regarding the cause of his death.
In November 2024, Destiny Boy welcomed his first child, a baby boy, with his partner, Iremide. At the time, he announced the birth on social media, expressing gratitude for the arrival of his son.
The late singer began his career at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos State, and initially worked as a backup dancer for Fuji music star Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma. He rose to prominence in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song “If,” which gained widespread attention online.
Police say investigations are ongoing and further details will be communicated as they emerge.
