The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that Nigeria’s collaboration with the United States in tackling terrorism does not threaten the country’s sovereignty.
Felix Morka, the party’s national publicity secretary, stated this on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television, noting that both governments are working closely to address insecurity across the country.
According to Morka, the partnership is focused on ending the persistent violence that has led to loss of lives and widespread hardship among Nigerians. He said the federal government remains determined to deploy all lawful measures necessary to dismantle terrorist networks.
Reacting to concerns that US involvement could amount to foreign interference, Morka dismissed such fears, explaining that Nigeria is fully involved in all decisions guiding the cooperation.
He stressed that unlike situations where foreign forces operate without the consent of host nations, the current arrangement is based on mutual agreement and coordination between Nigerian and US authorities.
Morka added that any action taken on the ground would reflect decisions jointly reached by both governments, with the ultimate goal of protecting lives and restoring security.
His comments come after the United States confirmed the deployment of a small team of troops to Nigeria as part of ongoing security cooperation between both countries.
