The Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, has outlined what he described as landmark achievements by the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, saying the government’s policies and interventions across key sectors are markedly improving living standards for residents.
Speaking on a radio programme on Tuesday, in a statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti, Olatunbosun said the Oyebanji administration had “set a new and unmatched benchmark for progressive, people-oriented governance and development” since assuming office. He added that the government “has consistently delivered on its promises and justified the overwhelming confidence reposed in it by Ekiti people.”
According to the commissioner, education remains a central priority for the state government. Olatunbosun said the administration “has successfully renovated all 203 public secondary schools and over 900 public primary schools across the state.” He noted additional efforts to strengthen the education sector, explaining that the government had also “recruited 1,800 teaching and non-teaching personnel, introduced free education from primary to secondary levels in government-owned schools and significantly increased subvention to tertiary institutions to promote stability, academic excellence and uninterrupted learning.”
Olatunbosun highlighted the settlement of long-standing pension arrears as part of the government’s commitment to social welfare. He said the administration in three years had “cleared long-standing pension arrears owed to retirees, a move … a bold demonstration of the governor’s resolve to restore dignity, respect and financial security to senior citizens who had served the state meritoriously.”
The commissioner also highlighted significant investments in the health sector. He said the government “has embarked on extensive renovation of all tiers of the healthcare centres across the state, while ensuring free access to essential healthcare services such as malaria treatment, antenatal care and routine immunisation for residents.” He added that health facilities had been “equipped with modern medical equipment,” leading to improved service delivery, reduced mortality rates and strengthened public confidence in the healthcare system.
Olatunbosun said the administration’s deliberate focus on agriculture was designed to tackle food insecurity and create economic opportunities for youths. He noted that the government had “empowered over 7,000 youths with financial support, farm inputs, seedlings and access to farmland, as part of a deliberate strategy to drive food security, create jobs and reposition agriculture as a viable economic pathway for young people.” He added that secure farm dormitories had been constructed across the state to “promote all-year farming and protect farmers from security threats.”
On infrastructure, the commissioner said the Oyebanji administration had taken deliberate steps to expand electricity access and strengthen power delivery in towns and villages. He stated that electricity supply “had been extended to more than 50 towns and villages, with transformers distributed and Independent Power Plants installed in hospitals and critical public institutions to guarantee uninterrupted service delivery.”
Olatunbosun also emphasised the government’s efforts to enhance security across the state. He said Governor Oyebanji’s “unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property had earned the state national recognition and merit awards,” citing strengthened grassroots security through the deployment of Agro Marshals, the Amotekun Corps and Peace Corps to complement conventional security agencies. He added that the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps operating in the state had been equipped with “technology-driven tools to enhance intelligence gathering and operational effectiveness.”
Concluding his remarks, Olatunbosun urged residents to continue supporting the government’s agenda to “consolidate the gains and sustain the current development momentum” in Ekiti State.
