At least four persons are feared dead following a violent clash between suspected Fulani herdsmen and residents of Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The incident was confirmed on Monday by the Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Comfort Ojoma Nwuchiola Egwaba, who represents Ibaji State Constituency.
In a statement issued in Lokoja, Egwaba expressed deep concern over the violence, particularly in Ejule Ojebe community, describing the incident as tragic and heartbreaking.
She said the clash has plunged the affected families and the wider community into mourning, stressing that violence should never be a solution to disputes or misunderstandings.
The lawmaker condemned the killings and called on security agencies to act swiftly to restore peace, safeguard lives and property, and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
Egwaba also urged relevant authorities to address the root causes of recurring tensions in the area in order to prevent future outbreaks of violence.
She appealed to community leaders, youths, and residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and avoid spreading unverified information that could escalate the situation.
The deputy speaker assured constituents of her commitment to working with the state government, security agencies, and traditional institutions to promote peace and security across Ibaji communities.
She concluded by extending condolences to the families of the victims and praying for lasting peace in the affected areas.
