The Kwara State Fire Service on Thursday recovered the body of an unidentified man from a river located along the Osin/Laduba corridor in Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state.
The discovery was reportedly brought to the attention of emergency responders by officials of the Kwara State Ministry of Environment earlier in the day.
Spokesperson for the fire service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, confirmed the development in a statement, noting that the agency received the alert at about 2:42 p.m.
He stated that the call indicated that a corpse had been sighted in the river along the Osin/Laduba axis, prompting immediate deployment of firefighters to the scene.
Adekunle disclosed that upon arrival, operatives successfully retrieved the remains of a male adult, estimated to be around 43 years old.
He added that the identity of the deceased could not be immediately ascertained.
According to him, the body was handed over to officials of the Ministry of Environment for further necessary action, while health authorities carried out fumigation of the area to avert possible environmental or public health concerns.
Reacting to the incident, the Director of the fire service, CFS Alabi Muhammed, cautioned residents to be vigilant and careful around rivers and other water bodies.
He urged members of the public to promptly notify appropriate agencies whenever emergencies occur.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of the service to protecting lives and property through sustained collaboration with sister agencies across the state.
Recall that in October 2025, firefighters in the state recovered the corpse of another man from the Asa River along Emir’s Road in Ilorin.
