Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has called on Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to pursue dialogue with the federal government under President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Friday through his counsel, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the Yoruba nation activist commended Kanu for cancelling the long-standing Monday sit-at-home order in the South-East, describing the decision as a thoughtful step toward easing economic hardship in the region.
Igboho noted that the directive, which had disrupted commercial activities across the South-East for years, imposed significant costs on residents and businesses. He urged Kanu to build on the move by adopting negotiation and mediation as the primary strategy for resolving his legal and political challenges.
While reaffirming Kanu’s right to seek self-determination, Igboho expressed optimism that the Tinubu administration may be receptive to constructive engagement aimed at promoting peace, security, and economic stability.
The activist also warned against continued violence in the South-East, cautioning that criminal elements and armed groups should desist from acts that further destabilise the region. He emphasised that lasting prosperity would require an end to insecurity and destruction.
Igboho’s remarks come amid ongoing debates over Kanu’s conviction on terrorism-related charges, a ruling that his supporters have vowed to challenge through the appellate courts.
