Suspected thugs on Tuesday disrupted a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, allegedly assaulting the party’s State Chairman, Ade Adetinmehin, during the chaos.
The incident occurred at the APC secretariat located along Oba Adesida Road in Akure, where party leaders and members had gathered ahead of the party’s planned ward congresses.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers, reportedly led by individuals linked to the National Union of Road Transport Workers, stormed the venue and forced party members to flee, abruptly halting the meeting.
During the disruption, Adetinmehin was allegedly dragged to the ground and repeatedly slapped by the assailants, creating panic among stakeholders present at the gathering.
A photograph circulating on social media showed the chairman lying on the floor shortly after the incident, further heightening tension within party ranks.
Speaking after the attack, Adetinmehin said the meeting had earlier received the approval of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, adding that the violence came as a surprise to participants.
According to him, the attackers assaulted several attendees and dispersed the gathering before security intervention could arrive.
The APC chairman disclosed that the matter had been reported to the state Commissioner of Police, while party members called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
