The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has again stated that the senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, will not return to the National Assembly after the 2027 elections, arguing that she has failed to deliver meaningful projects to residents.
Kingibe emerged as senator in the 2023 general election under the platform of the Labour Party, but Wike said her performance in office would make it difficult for voters to renew her mandate.
The minister had previously made a similar prediction in 2024, maintaining that the lawmaker’s chances of re-election were slim.
He repeated the position on Monday while addressing journalists during a media chat in Abuja.
Tensions between the two political figures intensified after Kingibe accused the minister of ignoring her letters and messages regarding the growing security concerns in the nation’s capital.
She also alleged that the FCT administration had not adequately addressed issues such as water scarcity affecting residents.
Reacting to the criticism, Wike said electoral success depends on visible achievements, insisting that the senator had not executed projects that could convince voters to support her again.
According to him, he had warned earlier that she would struggle politically, challenging her to identify any completed project credited to her tenure in the Senate.
He further claimed that the lawmaker had limited engagement with satellite communities across the FCT, noting that residents in those areas play a decisive role during elections.
