An Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ondo State has ordered the remand of Ejigbo Ibrahim Oni at the Olokuta Correctional Centre over allegations that he was found with a human head believed to have been exhumed from a grave.
The defendant was brought before the court by the Ondo State Amotekun Corps on a two-count charge bordering on alleged possession of a previously buried human head and behaviour capable of causing a breach of public peace.
During proceedings, the prosecuting counsel, Msonter-Shagba, informed the court that the alleged offences occurred around 12:30 a.m. on February 28, 2026, in Supare Akoko within Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
According to the prosecutor, the accused was allegedly discovered at night in possession of the human head, which had earlier been buried, and was also said to have conducted himself in a manner capable of disturbing public order.
He further told the court that the alleged offences violate Sections 329 and 249(1)(d) of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Counsel to the defendant, Kehinde Osadugba, appealed to the court to admit his client to bail on lenient terms, assuring that the accused would not jump bail and would present reliable sureties.
In her ruling, the presiding magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in the same amount.
Sekoni directed that the sureties must swear to affidavits of means, submit two passport photographs each for themselves and the defendant, and provide proof of gainful employment.
She also ruled that one of the sureties must be a house owner residing in the property and must present utility bills as evidence, while also being a Level 14 officer in the public service.
The magistrate further directed the court registrar and the orderly to verify the residential addresses of the sureties.
However, the defendant was unable to meet the bail conditions and was subsequently remanded at the correctional facility.
The case was adjourned until May 4, 2026, for hearing.
