President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to screen and confirm Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance.
The request was contained in a letter addressed to the upper chamber and read during Tuesday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Oyedele’s nomination is to replace Doris Uzoka-Anite in the position.
Before his nomination, Oyedele served as chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he spearheaded initiatives aimed at restructuring Nigeria’s tax framework.
The 50-year-old economist and accountant hails from Ikaram in the Akoko area of Ondo State.
He obtained a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
Oyedele has also attended executive training programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
He spent 22 years with PricewaterhouseCoopers, joining the firm in 2001 and rising to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
Oyedele currently serves as a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and is also a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
In another communication to the Senate, Tinubu sought the confirmation of Magnus Abe as chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, following the resignation of Gbenga Komolafe.
The President also nominated Engineer Paul Yaro Jezhi, a former chairman of the Trade Union Congress in Kaduna State, and Sunday Adebayo Babalola, a former deputy director at the defunct Department of Petroleum Resources, to serve as non-executive commissioners.
After the letter was read, Akpabio referred the nominations to the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Upstream) for further legislative action.
