Renowned gospel singer, Evangelist Deborah Adebola Fasoyin, popularly known as Mama Fasoyin and celebrated as the voice behind the timeless Yoruba gospel song, Odun Nlo Sopin, is alive, contrary to reports circulating on social media.
The National President of the Gospel Musicians Association of Nigeria, Evangelist Philip Olayiwola, debunked the death rumour in a video shared on Facebook, assuring fans and admirers that the veteran musician remained in good health.
“I just received fake news a few hours ago that one of our grandmas, Mama Fasoyin, is late. I want to let you know that our mama, D.O Fasoyin, is alive, hale and healthy. Please debunk that rumour, mama is alive,” Olayiwola stated.
The false report had earlier spread rapidly across social media platforms, prompting an outpouring of tributes from Nigerians who believed the gospel icon had passed on.
Mama Fasoyin earned widespread reverence across Nigeria for her powerful rendition of Odun Nlo Sopin, a Yoruba gospel classic that for decades served as a spiritual soundtrack to the close of each year, inspiring reflection, gratitude and prayers among countless households.
