The Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, and the Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, on Wednesday arrived in Maiduguri following a directive from President Bola Tinubu for security chiefs to relocate to the North-East.
The directive comes amid growing concerns over renewed attacks and bombings linked to insurgent groups operating in the region.
The top military officers landed at the Maiduguri Air Force Base on Wednesday morning before heading to the headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai.
They were received at the base by the Theatre Commander, Abdulsalam Abubakar, alongside other senior officers.
Security sources said the relocation is part of coordinated efforts to confront the activities of extremist groups such as Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province.
After their arrival, the service chiefs proceeded to the Maimalari Military Cantonment where they inspected a guard of honour mounted by troops.
They later held a closed-door strategy session with field commanders to review ongoing operations and the security situation in the North-East.
The defence chief is expected to address journalists after the meeting as authorities step up measures to curb insurgent attacks in the region.
