A heated confrontation erupted at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday as activist Omoyele Sowore squared off with a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) while attempting to speak to journalists inside the courtroom.
Footage circulating on social media captured the moment the SAN challenged Sowore, insisting that the courtroom was not an appropriate place for media interviews.
“You are trying to intimidate me and undermine my intelligence just because you are a SAN. I have my own SANs,” Sowore reportedly responded, insisting that there is no law barring him from speaking to reporters within the court.
The SAN rejected Sowore’s claim, stressing the importance of courtroom decorum.
“In nearly three decades of practice, I have never witnessed this,” the lawyer said, urging that any media interaction be conducted outside the court.
“The courtroom is meant to serve justice, not function as a press briefing venue,” the SAN added, emphasizing the need to uphold the dignity of judicial proceedings.
