Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have dismantled a suspected car theft network in Akure, arresting two individuals and recovering a stolen Toyota Camry.
The development was made known in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who said the operation followed a report of a stolen vehicle.
According to the statement, the case was reported on February 27, 2026, by Adeyemi Robert, who alleged that his car was stolen during an event held on Sijuade Street in Akure on February 14.
“The complainant explained that he parked his Toyota Camry at the event venue, only to return and find it missing,” the police spokesman stated.
Jimoh noted that detectives immediately launched an investigation, utilising intelligence-led tactics to trace the vehicle and identify those responsible for the theft.
He said the stolen car was eventually tracked to one Awolo Akingbade, who was found in possession of it and subsequently taken in for questioning.
“Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been sold to him by the main suspect, Adeyemi David, who has also been apprehended,” he added.
The police spokesperson confirmed that the recovered vehicle has been secured as evidence, while the suspects have been arraigned after assisting investigators with relevant information.
Commending the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, reiterated the command’s resolve to clamp down on criminal activities and urged residents to support law enforcement with credible information.
