The Oluwo of Iwo, Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has suggested that Nigerians may, in the future, push for a constitutional amendment that could allow President Bola Tinubu to remain in office beyond the standard two-term limit.
Akanbi made the remark in a statement issued to celebrate Tinubu’s 74th birthday, where he commended the president’s leadership and described his administration as one that has introduced bold reforms aimed at strengthening the country.
According to the monarch, Tinubu has demonstrated decisive leadership through policies targeted at addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges. He noted that the administration’s efforts to curb illegal activities have contributed to improving economic performance and restoring confidence in the system.
He also pointed to what he described as positive movements in key economic indicators, including improvements in the value of the naira and an increase in Nigeria’s foreign reserves. Akanbi claimed that reserves have risen significantly under the current administration, attributing this to structural reforms such as exchange rate unification, increased oil output, and growing foreign investment inflows.
The traditional ruler further praised the granting of autonomy to local governments, stating that it has led to increased allocations to states and strengthened governance at the grassroots level. He also highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, including major road constructions across different regions of the country.
Akanbi added that Tinubu’s willingness to take difficult decisions sets him apart, noting that effective leadership often requires standing firm despite public criticism. He concluded that the president’s policies are gradually improving living conditions, with expectations that continued implementation will bring greater economic stability.
The message was conveyed in a statement released through the monarch’s spokesperson, Jerrywright Ukwu, as part of the birthday celebrations held for the president, which included prayers at the National Mosque in Abuja.
