The Ondo State Government has handed over 70 motorcycles to livestock extension workers and selected farmers to enhance agricultural outreach in the state.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa launched the distribution in Akure on Thursday, saying the move was aimed at boosting food production and strengthening the agricultural sector.
The governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Segun Omojuwa, described agriculture as a key driver of the state’s economy.
He stressed that extension services remain crucial in linking government policies with farmers, especially those in rural communities.
Aiyedatiwa noted that inadequate transportation had hindered extension officers from effectively reaching farmers in remote locations.
He explained that the motorcycles would improve access to communities and ensure quicker response to farmers’ needs.
The governor also lauded the L-PRES initiative and the Ministry of Agriculture for executing the programme, warning beneficiaries against misuse of the motorcycles.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Leye Akinola, said the intervention would boost livestock production, while beneficiaries welcomed the gesture as a timely support for their work.
