Panic erupted in Abuja on Friday after a building under construction collapsed in the Jikwoyi area, leaving several persons feared trapped.
The affected structure, said to be Ugo West Hotel, reportedly came down while work was ongoing at the site.
Witnesses said the sudden collapse left labourers and other individuals buried beneath the wreckage.
The development drew a crowd of residents and passersby, who rushed to the location to offer assistance.
As of press time, the number of those trapped or injured had not been ascertained.
Emergency agencies were yet to arrive at the scene when initial rescue efforts began.
Local volunteers were seen attempting to remove debris in search of survivors.
Officials have not released any statement on the possible cause of the incident.
Rescue operations were still ongoing as more information is being awaited.
