The Foundation for Digital Justice (FDJ) has strongly condemned what it described as a threat made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, against Channels Television journalist Seun Okinbaloye.
In a statement released on Saturday, the organization described the alleged remark as unacceptable, stating that any threat against a journalist poses a serious risk to press freedom and democratic accountability in Nigeria.
According to the statement, the incident reportedly occurred during a media chat with journalists in Abuja. FDJ noted that such actions contribute to a growing atmosphere of intimidation against members of the press and may encourage self-censorship.
The organization further stated that threats directed at journalists undermine free speech, media independence, and the democratic values of transparency and accountability.
FDJ has called on the minister to issue a public retraction and apology to Seun Okinbaloye within 24 hours, warning that failure to do so could result in legal action.
